Appointment's Post II

This post is for threading with Shikamaru anytime and anywhere. It can be used for action tags or the ping feature on journals (voice or written) to get in contact with him for personal conversations. This will be used primarily for anything that you don't feel like would take place in a regular log or post.

[After he had left Silver earlier, Shikamaru had in fact realized his grave error in showing any familiarity in the first place.

It's too late to cover it up now he already knows, but faced with actually having to explain things he makes a show of looking put out. He puts his pizza down with an exaggerated sigh, wiping his hand off on his pants.]

How troublesome. [Here he bows his head, palming his face in a gesture more reminiscent to something you'd see from an adult.] I thought I could keep it secret a little longer, you know? It's no fun this way...

You're right. Now that I know your secret, I'm gonna share it with the whole village.

[...No really Shikamaru he has no idea what you're talking about, what's going on-]

[Pfft.] Yeah right. You might talk more than the Silver I'm used to, but so do the birds and the fish, and about every other animal in this village.

[It's the principle of the thing. He lost the game, man. ):]

...He's not that bad, is he?

[...Should he apologize again?]

[...bad is such a subjective term.]

[SHRUG.]

You're not that different, so whatever. I guess I can trust you.

[Because wow this is such an issue. Only not because even he gets Luceti does stuff like this all the time. He just wanted to milk it for his own benefit. Shikamaru picks a sausage off of his pizza and pops it in his mouth, chewing around his words.]

Well, yeah. But how do you know about that? [Isn't he supposed to be small and from some ninja world and that's as complex as it gets?]

Chouji told me. And Katara and Ino, and everyone else.

[Shikamaru blinks and looks around the room, observing things more carefully now. How weird. So that one experiment is going on here too...]

[...Why's he looking around like that? What happened?]

Then let me ask a different question. [Chouji's his best friend, right? And Ino's someone important to him, and Katara...] How long have you been small?

[The answer shouldn't be longer than a day or two, but... That Chouji guy isn't even here anymore. Is he?]

Hmm... [Thinks. Doesn't take very long to do the math.] Almost four years?

[Just. As if this is a casual thing to say.]

[Oh yeah four years that's no big de-]

Four years? [Four years? How?]

Yeah. [It's okay, Silver, he's had to have this conversation like ten times when everyone from Konoha showed up older than him.]

See, what Chouji told me is when I first came to Luceti I was the same age as him. But then a couple months after that there was this experiment where a buncha stuff was going on? I turned into a kid during it, but when the experiment was over I didn't go back to normal.

...But when that happens, things usually go back to normal in a few days. A few weeks tops. [Not... In four years. More than four years, given that he's still stuck as a kid...]

You've never met anyone who's gotten stuck?

[...He shakes his head. A few people got "stuck" during that time everyone went home and came back different, a few people- himself included- got stuck after that valentine's experiment a couple of years ago...

But nothing like this.

...Right?]

...wow. That's freaky. [Said very calmly, as he takes another bite of pizza.] It happens all the time.

[Well not to everyone, but often enough that he has a hard time picturing a Luceti where it's not a normal risk after experiments. He might be biased being someone impacted by it.]

[...Sorry, Shikamaru. You're definitely the freaky one.]

Who else is stuck?

Lots of people. You don't want a list, do you?

[He's giving you a look like there's enough people that that would just be really troublesome, like why would you do that to him.]

...That's okay.

[That many, huh. That's insane. There's no telling what kinds of shifts they're stuck with, either.

...

The more he asks, the more questions he has...]

Phew. That's a relief.

[He reaches for the soda can now, carefully popping the top to make sure it doesn't fizz anywhere. He'll sip slowly, swishing around the taste in his mouth with interest.]

[And here he freezes mid-motion, every bit like his namesake; a deer caught in the headlights. Where an older Shikamaru's made a craft out of masking and minimizing his expressions, this younger one has no such filter for his fear.]

[It's a little late for apologies, though at least Silver had the good sense to offer him an out. He takes it immediately. There's nothing he wants to talk about less.

The damage is done though, and his attempts to hide it are clumsy: where he was slouched before, now his spine is ramrod straight. His hands shakes noticeably setting the can of soda back down, and he has to use both to make sure he doesn't spill.

Through all of this, frustration begins to bleed into his face more than the previous fear did, though it lingers. Shikamaru's learned to handle a lot of things in Luceti well, surprisingly enough. The drafts though... not so much.]

Sure. [He fidgets uncomfortably, switching his attention to anything else in the room. It fixes on a tree visible from outside the window, where the leaves are suddenly as green as they would be in Spring. That's interesting enough.] Whatever.

[...It's not surprising, really. Drafts are terrible and traumatizing for everyone else. Shikamaru's still just a kid.]
